Starkville Area Arts Council’s Cotton District Arts Festival Juried Arts Exhibit 2021

The MSU Department of Art Galleries and the Starkville Area Arts Council co-organize this annual juried exhibition as part of the programming for the Cotton District Arts Festival.
45 pieces are on exhibit in the 2021 Starkville Area Arts Council’s Cotton District Arts Festival Juried Arts Exhibit. Pieces include examples of painting, drawing, ceramics, printmaking, fiber art, graphic design, sculpture and photography. From the accepted pieces, prizes are awarded in several categories. All pieces and awards in the exhibit were selected by notable guest juror Julian Rankin, Executive Director of the Walter Anderson Museum of Art.
About the Juror:
Julian Rankin was raised in Mississippi and North Carolina. He studied English and Creative Writing at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Rankin was the founding Director of the Center for Art & Public Exchange at the Mississippi Museum of Art, which uses artworks and engagements to address issues of racial equity and inspire new narratives in contemporary Mississippi. He is the Executive Director of the Walter Anderson Museum of Art in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Rankin is a part of the Jekyll Island Management Institute class of 2019, a program supported through the Southeastern Museums Conference.
He is the author of Catfish Dream: Ed Scott’s Fight for his Family Farm and Racial Justice in the Mississippi Delta published by the University of Georgia Press as part of the Southern Foodways Alliance Studies in Culture, People, and Place series. Catfish Dream was short-listed for a James Beard Foundation Award and was recognized as the 2019 Nonfiction winner by the Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters.
