Artist Statement: Another Day in Paradise is a collection of portraits and landscapes made throughout The Hill Country: a somewhat fictional region located between Memphis, TN and New Orleans, LA, where men wear camouflage and “Honk If You’re Horny!” is painted on highway overpasses.
Whitten Sabbatini (b. 1990, Mississippi) received his MFA from Columbia College Chicago in 2017, where he was awarded the Follet Graduate Merit Award. His work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally, including recent shows at The Museum of Contemporary Photography and the Ogden Museum of Southern Art. Sabbatini’s photographs are held in various permanent collections, including The Joan Flasch Artists’ Book Collection at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, The Do Good Fund, and The Memphis Brooks Museum of Art. Sabbatini contributes photographs to editorial clients that include TIME, The New Yorker, GQ, WSJ Magazine, ESPN, and The New York Times. His work has appeared in various publications including, the MoCP’s Go Down Moses (2019), One Day Projects’ And Light Followed the Flight of Sound (2018), VUU Studio’s Super Special (2017), and Mossless: The United States (2014). Another Day in Paradise, his first monograph, was nominated for MACK's First Book Award and released in Spring 2018.
The Visual Arts Center Gallery is open Monday–Friday, 1pm–6pm and Saturday 1–4pm.
