Building Construction Science Advisory Board

The Department of Building Construction Science continues to enjoy excellent support from dedicated construction professionals through their active and voluntary participation in the BCS Industry Advisory Board (IAB). Through its efforts, this board merges the needs and expectations of the construction industry with the academy to form a strong partnership that enhances the quality of the education needed to produce the construction professional of the 21st century. The board supports the BCS department through giving input into and influencing the direction of the program.

National Roofing Contractor’s Alliance (NRCA)

A student team participated in the National Roofing Contractor’s Alliance (NRCA) competition. The alliance's 2019 Construction Management Student Competition was a “hallmark competition that promotes careers in roofing industry management. The competition is designed to challenge students' roofing knowledge, construction management skills, time management, and organizational and presentation skills.”

Associated Builders and Contractors

BCS students operate a student chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors,  a national construction industry trade association representing more than 21,000 members.

Associated General Contractors

The Mississippi State University Building Construction Science student team won third place in the Region II Design Build competition in Peachtree City, Georgia, in spring 2018. The competition is sponsored by the Associated General Contractors.

Required Materials and Fees for BCS Students

The Building Construction Science degree program has some additional fees for materials, field trips, and other items that enhance our students’ education. The program strives to be able to offer comparatively low lab fees thanks to support from alumni and friends.

Students also need to purchase a variety of tools and materials to help them succeed in their studio coursework.

Advising Guidelines

  • Advising is available to and encouraged of all students.  
  • A signup sheet to meet with your advisor will be posted in the main office.
  • It is the student’s responsibility to sign‐up for an advising appointment. If you do not participate in advising, it is assumed that you understand the process and take responsibility for your registration.

The Department of Building Construction Science at Mississippi State University is designed to prepare students for careers in construction and construction-related fields. The studio-based program is one of just two programs of its kind in the nation.
