A celebration of special beauty found in overlooked items of everyday life begins Wednesday [Feb. 17] at Mississippi State’s Colvard Student Union Art Gallery.
Free to all through March 10, the “Salvaged Splendor” collection of university student art features creations made with salvaged objects from old homes and buildings.
Participating artists include members of such campus groups as the ACCESS program, National Pan-Hellenic Council, Music Maker Productions and Student Association.
All exhibition works may be purchased, with proceeds going to the Starkville Area Habitat for Humanity’s Maroon Edition House program.
A 5-6 p.m. opening reception Wednesday also is free to all in the second-floor gallery. Refreshments will be provided.
Regular gallery hours are 8 a.m.-10 p.m., Monday-Friday, as well as by appointment.
In addition to the MSU College of Architecture, Art and Design’s art department, the exhibit is made possible by the Center for Student Activities and Starkville Area Habitat for Humanity. Additional support comes from the MSU Maroon Edition Committee.
The Colvard gallery is among several campus venues that regularly feature traveling art exhibits, student shows, and group and solo displays by professional artists.
Additional information on this and other exhibits is available from Lori Neuenfeldt, coordinator for gallery and outreach programs, at 662-325-2973 or LNeuenfeldt@caad.msstate.edu.
MSU’s art department is home to the Magnolia State’s largest undergraduate studio art program. It offers a bachelor of fine arts degree, with concentrations in graphic design, photography and fine art (ceramics, drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture).
