Six senior art majors specializing in graphic design at Mississippi State are showcasing their work in a Bachelor of Fine Arts thesis exhibition, available for viewing in-person or online.
Titled “In the Making,” the gallery spotlights the seniors’ completion of academic and studio work within MSU’s Department of Art, the state’s largest undergraduate studio art program. The students under the instruction of Associate Professor of Graphic Design Suzanne Powney this semester are displaying their graphic creations at the Visual Arts Center Gallery through Nov. 21 from 1-6 p.m., but also are available online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Updates on the exhibition are posted on Instagram.
Student exhibitor Breanna Rochelle of Nesbit explained that “In the Making” refers to the process that comes with creating art, designing and the changes in life. This was instilled by Powney as she guided her students to achieve design goals and exhibit excellence in their work.
Rochelle said, “To me, ‘In the Making’ refers to the fact that we are always growing and changing, and it encourages me to look forward to what comes next for myself. I’m not finished yet.”
In addition to Rochelle, other student exhibitors include (by hometown):
CARTHAGE—Jeremiah Brooks
GREENVILLE—Darius Amos
IUKA—Malik Henley
MADISON—Mandy Schemmel
MEMPHIS, Tennessee—Vick Jackson
