Professor Marita Gootee’s new photographic encaustic imagery has been accepted into the 19th Pollux Awards Exhibition. This event will be hosted by the FotoNostrum Gallery in Barcelona, Spain.
Jurors Stephen Perloff and Julio Hirsch-Hardy gave Gootee’s work a three-way tie for the highest award in the Professional Alternative category. This is the first time Gootee has received the status of winner in the Pollux Awards Competition.
Gootee’s images "Lost Future," "Mending," and "Twilight" are Photographic Encaustic Contact Lumens. All three images achieved the maximum tackling by both jurors. This is why all three are posted as winners when normally only one would be selected. This is a huge honor for Gootee, and this work is a result of her visual research while on sabbatical in the Spring 2022.
“This project represents the memory of what exists now and the loss humanity is experiencing,” said Gootee.
The opening and artists' reception is planned for December 6, 2023, in the FotoNostrum Gallery in Barcelona, Spain.
