52nd MSU Student Juried Exhibition
Welcome to the 52nd MSU Student Juried Exhibition Online Gallery!
This annual student juried exhibit celebrates the achievements of participating Mississippi State University undergraduate students and recognizes outstanding student work in four categories: Foundation, Fine Art, Photography, and Graphic Design.
This year, 273 total works were submitted for consideration, and 106 final works were selected by three jurors. Along with making selections for the works into the exhibit, the jurors also chose four Best in Show and 14 Honorable Mention award designations.
An awards ceremony will be on Friday, March 22 from 5pm until 6pm in the gallery.
The exhibition is open in the Cullis Wade Depot Art Gallery on March 22 through April 5, 2024. The gallery is free and open to the public Monday through Friday, 9am until 5pm, closed university holidays.
About the Jurors:
Foundation and Fine Art
Ty Smith, Artist and Professor.
Since 2014, Ty Smith has served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Birmingham, AL. He earned his MFA from the School of Art and Art History, University of Tulsa, Tulsa, OK and his BFA from Department of Art and Art History, University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, AL. Smith's work has shown in over 30 group exhibitions and ten solo shows. He most recent solo exhibition For Me, and for You opened in January 2024 in the MSU Visual Arts Center Gallery.
Photography
John Morris, Artist-Educator.
John Morris is an artist-educator living outside Atlanta with his wife and frequent collaborator Christina Ayala. He holds an MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and a BFA from the University of Georgia. Over the past decade, he has exhibited extensively throughout the United States, and his artwork has been shown abroad in venues such as the Czong Institute for Contemporary Art in South Korea, the Millepiani Gallery in Rome, and he has had his work cataloged by the Centre Pompidou-Metz in France. Morris serves as Associate Professor of Art at the University of West Georgia in photography.
Graphic Design
Tyler Tadlock, Designer.
Tyler Tadlock is a multidisciplinary artist with over 20+ years as a freelance artist and graphic designer. In 2012 he founded Southern Cult, a studio based in Jackson, Mississippi with over a decade of award-winning experience in corporate identity, non-profit identity, and public sector design. His work has been featured in Metropolis, Pitchfork, Vice, and AIGA’s Eye On Design. “Art and design are powerful tools for change, and pursuing social progress through design is part of Southern Cult’s ethos.” - southerncult.com
