My main focus as an artist is things from life: people, places, and all that we see of God’s creation. I have always loved sketching and drawing with a wide range of mediums. As for painting, my main mediums are oil and acrylic, and I work from photographs, life, and on location in the En Plein Air style. I love trying to catch the light and shade of a particular scene, bringing a sense of energy or life into the work. When approaching a scene, I hope to capture the moment how I see it. My goal as an artist is to show what I see and love about the world we live in. In this body of work, I chose to focus on what I love most about a scene; the thing that catches my eye first and fall in love with the medium; playing more with how I apply the paint and the colors I used. This allows me to zoom in and focus on more specific parts of a location. In “Tulips at State”, one red tulip among a patch of grass and dirt surrounded by yellow tulips is what caught my eye. The small patch of landscaping hemmed me in. Every painting in this body of work is based off of similar moments.
