Artist's Statement:
The intent is that the viewer sees the beauty of the world through my perspective, and it causes them rethink or add to their definition of beauty. When people look at my series, I want them to realize that our human bodies are symbiotic to the plants outside. Just as we observe the nature outside and see it for what it is without judging or comparing them to each other is how we should see our bodies. Natural and perfect in their creation.
My artistic process throughout this journey has been surrounded around the main idea of body positivity and appreciation for what we are as a human race. The research I’ve done has been integral in the outcome of my series. Without the inspiration of different artists who’ve either had similar aesthetic to what I have achieved or similar concept, each of them has taught me more about the art form. I want the viewer to focus on the body and the forms created, so the studio was the one place that I could control the environment to achieve this. I wanted to convey how we are nature by both obvious comparisons and abstract thinking. In some pieces you will almost clearly see a direct correlation between a plant and human, in others it will show up in subtle ways.
My fine art photography is to help people reevaluate how they perceive their body and the bodies around them before judging. We are as beautiful in creation as the flowers that grow in your garden. Just as we wouldn’t criticize, judge, and compare the trees and flowers outside, let us not criticize, judge, and compare our bodies to the ones next to them. Let us be unique and beautiful in creation.
