Left
Left points my audience to what we are left with because of our unique relationships with God, family, and nature. These gifts I am left with have been my greatest inspirations for my art through the years. I chose to do four 18” x 24” works using graphite and colored pencils to capture realistic details with blended, smooth textures. Realism has always intrigued me in the way every last detail can come to life. I try to make my portraits as alive on paper as in my memory of them. Symbolism is used throughout my pieces. The continuity of blue and orange is reminiscent of the “bluebird of happiness” woven into all of our experiences bringing confidence, loyalty, and wisdom. The orange glow radiates happiness, strength, optimism, and warmth. These concepts are captured through the rendering of my childhood sketches, backyard memories, tributes to my sister, parents, and grandparents while also bringing in the importance of God’s guidance and nature throughout. The joys of childhood shape us into who we are. I hope to never lose that childlike sense of wonder, imagination, and innocence. May we all continue to explore the world and believe in magical things. It is my desire for my audience to be left with feelings of hope, love, and beauty. I hope my series serves as a reminder to make the most of the time we have left to impart wisdom, hope, and love to future generations.

Fly Away Home
Graphite and colored pencil, 24” x 18”, 2020, NFS.
My grandfather’s legacy remains through our shared memories and nature. When we see a hawk, bluebirds, an empty nest, or visit my grandparents’ home we are reminded of his love.
Drawn to the Past
Graphite and colored pencil, 18” x 24”, 2021, NFS
This drawing connects family to the past and present. It is a symbol of the family bond established early in my life as well as the progression of my artistic renderings.
Wings
Graphite and colored pencil, 24” x 18”, 2021, NFS
Focusing on our sisterly relationship, the monarch butterfly wings surround us symbolizing we are on the right path to achieve our goals. We are given roots and wings to fly.
Reminisce
Graphite and colored pencil, 18” x 24”, 2021, NFS
Incorporating imagery from my childhood backyard, I reflect on the importance of times spent there with my family. These happy moments still shape my character today.
